Rabbi Ellen Bernstein z”l & The Song of Songs: Toward a Holy Ecology

DATE: Sunday, April 28
TIME: 11:30am ET / 8:30am PT
LOCATION: Zoom (register below)

On February 27, we lost a matriarch of the Jewish environmental movement, Rabbi Ellen Bernstein, of blessed memory. Please join us as we honor Ellen’s legacy, and reflect on the insightful teachings in her final published work, Toward a Holy Ecology: Reading the Song of Songs in the Age of Climate Crisis.

On April 28, we will gather to discuss Ellen’s ecological reading of the Song of Songs, and the larger call to action embedded in the text — that ecological repair begins with the recognition of our intrinsic belonging to the natural world. As Ellen writes, “The Song of Songs redeems the wholeness of the paradisial garden, and in so doing restores the presence of the holy. I call this divine ecological unity ‘wholiness.'”

This event coincides with the festival of Pesach (Passover), during which Jewish communities throughout the world chant the Song of Songs and rededicate themselves to caring for our beloved and shared planet.
